Bungle Shama Rao Dwarakanath, also known as Dwarakish, was a veteran Kannada film actor, producer, and director who passed away on Tuesday due to a heart arrest. According to family members, he was 81.Along with producing and directing around 50 films, he appeared in about 100 films as an actor. Dwarakish, who was born on August 19, 1942, in Hunsur, Mysuru district, became well-known throughout the State for his comedic parts.
With the song “Aadu Aata Aadu,” he is also credited with bringing renowned Hindi playback vocalist Kishore Kumar to the Kannada film industry.
Dwarakish, a mechanical engineering diploma holder, made his screen debut in 1966 as a co-producer of “Mamatheya Bandhana” under the Thunga Pictures banner.
His film “Mayor Muthanna,” which starred Bharathi and Dr. Rajkumar, two of Kannada cinema’s matinee idols, brought him enormous fame as a producer.
Rajinikanth sends the Dwarikish family his condolences.
“The demise of my long time dear friend Dwarakesh is very painful to me..starting his career as a comedian, he raised himself up to being a big producer and director..fond memories come to my mind..my heartfelt condolences to his family and dear ones,” wrote Rajinikanth in the caption of a tweet he posted.
