The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Motorola has returned to India with an entry-level model from its cost-effective Moto G-series range after a revision of its mid-range lineup. The smartphone, known as the Moto G64, has an impressive array of features, including a near-stock Android operating system, a smooth refresh rate display, a slim and lightweight design, a strong dual-camera system, and quick speed.
Design
The Moto G64’s slim and light design improves the device’s feel in the hand. Its review unit’s mint green colourway makes a positive visual difference. The phone’s back panel has a gradient effect, which is highlighted by the aluminium camera housing in the upper left corner. The back cover features the Moto logo imprinted in the centre of a 3D Acrylic glass (PMMA) finish. The phone has a camera hole in the centre of the front, surrounded by large bezels that give it an unremarkable look.
The power button and volume buttons are located on the right, while the replaceable SIM slot is located on the left. One of the two speakers, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack are located on the bottom. Because of its IP52 classification, which protects it from spills and unintentional splashes, the phone is water-repellent. All in all, the design is not too dissimilar from its forerunners.
Display
A 6.5-inch full IPS LCD with a refresh rate of 120 Hz is included on the Moto G64. Although 5G smartphones in all price ranges now typically have high refresh rates, low-cost smartphones typically have poor user experiences despite supporting high refresh rates. Here’s where the Moto G64 really shines. The refresh rate is optimized for a seamless overall experience despite some imperfections. Regarding performance, it can be seen that even in bright outdoor settings, the display can be read. It is lively, fluid, and quick to react. YouTube and other apps can be seen in high definition on this display.
In terms of music, the Moto G64 5G has stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos, which produces clear, strong sound with a feeling of spatial coverage. It’s interesting to note that the phone is one of the few with a 3.5mm socket.
Camera
The Moto G64 has two cameras on its back: an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS). The phone includes a 16MP camera sensor on the front.
Aside from that, the rear camera system takes clear, somewhat deep pictures during the day. After processing, though, the colours seem unduly contrasted and unnatural. Clear, well-balanced colours and depth are evident in well-lit indoor environments. Nevertheless, the camera captures grainy, fragmented images in low light. While macro images are sharp, ultra-wide-angle shots are typically a little fuzzy.
Night pictures require improvement as numerous shots are needed to get a nice image, and images can become blurry.
Good night and daytime photos can be taken with the front camera. It tends to soften the photos and provides beauty filters.
The selfie capture method, which lets you hold your palm in front of the camera without tapping to take a picture, is one intriguing feature. The air gesture feature and this feature are comparable. Other features of the camera include time-lapse dual capture mode, slow motion, and many more.
With OIS, videos can be recorded at 30 frames per second and 60 frames per second. Although the output colour quality is not natural, the stabilization is good.
Performance
The MediaTek Dimensity 7025 powers the Moto G64 5G, which also has 256GB of storage and up to 12GB of RAM. This is one of the greatest setups for a low-cost smartphone. As a result, anticipate flawless performance. The near-stock Android 14 experience enhances performance. For the better, Motorola has integrated some of its clever features into the UI. Among these is the capability for a personalized experience called “My UX.” In addition, Motorola offers additional features like Moto Secure, Family Space, and Think Shield. The promise from Motorola to upgrade the smartphone to Android 15 and provide three years of security upgrades is possibly the most significant software feature.
Battery
Even when used to its maximum capacity, the 6,000mAh battery life of the Moto G64 5G allows it to function for a whole day. The charging time with 33W fast charging, which takes 90 minutes for the phone to fully charge, supports the good on-battery time.
Verdict
The Moto G64 is a good low-cost smartphone with a clean, uncluttered UI, quick speed, and a respectable camera. If you can put up with a subpar camera system, the Moto G64 is an appealing cheap alternative. The camera performance is the one drawback here. If not, the smartphone is a superior choice since it has something for everyone.
